Are You Asking What Is The Best Exercise To Lose Weight?
What is the best exercise to lose weight a young lady with PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) asked me this afternoon at my gym. She, like others with illness and/or hormonal issues, are in a different boat entirely from those without such afflictions, but the question is every bit as valid. A lot of people, as I’ve mentioned recently, have asked me what the best way to do this or that within the realm of fitness, and the answer remains the same. It depends upon you personally. There are very few good answers that are generalizations, but this question is absolutely not one of them.
Whether you are struggling with hormonal imbalances, emotional eating, or any other malady, the question still remains of what is the best exercise to lose weight? With a potential client, sight unseen, I’d have to defer to common sense and suggest whatever burns the most calories, and also, whatever you’re willing to do on an ongoing basis. That said, we could be inferring that leg presses are in order, but without seeing you in person and discussing your medical history, as well as your imbalances, there’s no way I could say that with any degree of certainty. As a longtime personal trainer in Austin, I’ve made a point of relating to people that personal training is just as the title states. Personal. Therefore, it would stand to reason that if I doled out generic advice and had all of my readers do this or that exercise for this or that many reps, it would be not only generic and likely ineffective, but dangerous and negligent as well.
If you’re interested in losing weight, you’ll need to burn calories. That is one part of the equation. The other part, and it’s rather intuitive, is that you’ll need to consume fewer calories than you are burning. The deficit is what enables us to lose weight when we’re talking about losing body fat. If we’re talking about water weight, you’ll still need to exercise and keep your nutrition in check, but you’ll also be consuming a far greater amount of water than you would ordinarily. If you want to truly lose body fat while simultaneously reducing your body’s holding of water, you’ll have to have the perfect marriage of adequate water consumption and proper nutrition, coupled with, of course, exercise.
There is no magic gym exercise that will burn more calories than another if you’re in a hurry to lose weight. We could certainly argue, however, that swimming laps will burn a far greater sum of calories than a leisurely bike ride, but it depends upon how far you’re willing to go to achieve your goals. If you are looking for an easy solution, it’s simply not there. The best answer I could give, without having the client in front of me to see them and learn what I need to know to make a better educated answer, is that anything involving a higher caloric expenditure, coupled with proper nutrition, and good hydration levels. In most cases, however, the best exercise to lose weight is honestly, to exercise self discipline when it comes to eating and working out.
